VA & the deep black
VA is the LCD that fights for black. Its crystals stand upright and clamp down on the backlight when a pixel goes dark, so the blacks run deep and the contrast lands around three to five times what IPS can do. In a dark room, that gap is obvious. The catch is motion and angle. VA pixels are slow to shift between two dark tones, which smears fast night scenes, and the picture loses contrast and color when you slide off to the side. It is the panel for movies and dim rooms, not the one for sharing a screen.
This is the one fight VA wins. Drag toward VA and the night sky sinks toward true black, the stars come out, and the contrast number climbs. An IPS panel taps out around 1000 to 1, where the same sky stays a dull gray.
